Online Masterclass: Passage & Piaffe-Passage-Transitions

The prerequisite for the passage is that the rider can influence the frequency of the trot using their seat. We want to be able to slow down the motion of the trot without using the reins. After all, we want to put energy into the passage, so we must not put the brakes on with the reins at the same time.

What does a perfect passage feel like for us and how do we get there? People often make the mistake of thinking that the passage is still too difficult for them or their horse. While that may be the case at the given time, however, we believe in the following principle: start early and give yourself plenty of time. Only through good preparation and correct basics will we be able to control our horse’s movement using only our seat allowing us to ride smooth transitions – from extended trot to collected trot and all the way to the passage and piaffe.

Every horse benefits from this fundamental work, regardless of whether the passage is actually the final goal. Properly prepared and correctly ridden, the passage strengthens the horse’s hindquarters, improves shoulder mobility and contributes to gymnasticizing and maintaining the horse’s health.
